If you’ve ever tried to book dining at Walt Disney World Resort, you already know how intense it can get. You set your alarm and log in before 6:00 a.m. Eastern, then hope you can grab that one reservation you really want before it disappears.
And yet, there’s a detail in this process that a lot of people either forget about or don’t fully use to their advantage.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you don’t just get one shot at booking dining 60 days in advance. You get to book for your entire stay, up to 10 days, starting 60 days before your check-in date.
That’s not a small perk. It’s a huge one.
The Advantage Most People Overlook

Here’s what that actually means in practice.
Let’s say your trip starts on June 1. At 60 days out, you’re not just booking June 1 dining. You’re booking June 1 through June 10, all in one sitting.
Meanwhile, someone not staying at a Disney Resort can only book one day at a time, exactly 60 days out for each date.
So by the time they’re trying to book something like Space 220 or Chef Mickey’s later in their trip, those reservations may already be gone. Not because Disney set out to exclude them, but because resort guests had earlier access to those later dates.
This is where strategy really matters.
Start at the End, Not the Beginning
If you’re using this benefit, the smartest thing you can do is start with the hardest-to-get reservations at the end of your trip and work backward.
That’s where your biggest advantage is.

Those later days are the ones with the least competition because only guests checking in on or before your arrival date can book them. If you wait and start with your first day, you’re basically giving up the edge that Disney built into its system.
It feels backward, but it totally works.
So… Should This System Change?
This is where things get interesting.
On one hand, this perk is part of what you’re paying for when you stay at a Disney Resort hotel. Early access, convenience, and a bit of an edge in planning are all baked into that experience.
On the other hand, it can feel pretty frustrating for everyone else.
If you’re staying off property or planning a more last-minute trip, it can seem like the best dining reservations are already gone before you even have a chance. And in many cases, that’s not far from the truth.
It raises a fair question.
Should Disney be setting aside a portion of dining reservations for guests who aren’t booking months in advance? Or even releasing more availability closer to the date to level things out a bit?
Right now, the system rewards early planners and resort guests. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does leave a noticeable gap for everyone else.
Don’t Leave This Benefit on the Table
Regardless of where you land on that debate, one thing is clear.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort and you’re not using that extended booking window to its full potential, you’re missing out on one of the most valuable planning tools Disney offers.
It’s easy to overlook because it’s not flashy. But when it comes to actually getting the dining reservations you want, it can make all the difference.
So now I’m curious – do you think Disney should change how dining reservations are released, or is this one perk that should stay exactly the way it is?
