Disney Rumor Round Up March 2016

Welcome to the March installment of Rumor Round Up. You can visit the last edition here. Rumors are flying about all sorts of things.

Disclaimer that none of the things mentioned in this article are official and may never even happen.

Magic Kingdom

Unfortunately nothing new happening in the Magic Kingdom.

Frozen Ever After is rumored to be opening May 27th in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

As we know, April 2nd, 2016 is going to be a big day for closures at Hollywood Studios as they prep for Star Wars land and Toy Story land coming to the park.

Pizza Planet closed in January and is set to be closed until November 2016. This long refurbishment is rumored to be for a theme change to the Muppets. The location is still supposed to serve pizza but will fit better in the area with MuppetVision 3D next door.

Throughout January, many construction permits showed up for locations backstage at Hollywood Studios. The company on the permit has worked for Disney in the past doing site prep for large projects. The backstage area for these permits is supposed to be where Toy Story Land eventually goes. Also recently, the large costuming department that was part of the Studios and located backstage has moved to a new location off property as they get ready for construction. Catastrophe Canyon, a former scene in the Backlot Tour, has been demolished completely as Disney is working on preparing a staging site and access road for the new construction projects at Hollywood Studios.

One thing that is said to be going away as well is Disney characters dressed as Star Wars characters. You will no longer see Mickey dressed as Luke Skywalker, or Goofy as Darth Vader. Lucasfilm does not seem to like when Disney does that so it has been put to an end.

Animal Kingdom

Nothing new to report here. Rivers of Light opens April 22nd and the nighttime safaris, as well as Tiffins, the new signature restaurant, are expected to open soon after.

It seems based on a pushed back registration date and an added day to the Wine and Dine weekend that a new challenge event could be taking place. Rumors have been swirling about this lately in the runDisney community.

Disney’s other parks

Disneyland Hong Kong has been heavily rumored to be getting a second park for some time now. According to the most recent rumors, those plans are on hold for now until Disney gets Shanghai under control and the Chinese economy gets a little better.

Disney California Adventure

A Marvel expansion is still in the works for California Adventure. And with the news that Captain America and Spider-Man are moving over to that park and SuperHero HQ will be closing, it seems even more likely.

Disney’s new park in Shanghai has been causing some cuts over at the parks in the United States. Employee hours have been cut, FastPasses for Wishes and possibly IllumiNations are going away, and food items being taken away from the parks. It is worth noting that Shanghai is not the only reason for the cuts. Many things lately have been over budget like MyMagic+ and even Avatar. All of these projects added up and have caused Disney to tighten up.

That is all for this edition of Rumor Round Up!
