Are you a Disney fan who is fascinated by all the modes of transportation available to guests at Walt Disney World? I sure am and for the first time, I stayed in an incredible hotel room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort with a theme park view. First of all, being able to see the Magic Kingdom in all its glory while standing on the balcony of my room nearly took my breath away. As I stood there, I began to notice that I could see every single mode of Disney transportation available to guests, from ferries to monorails and even the Walt Disney World Railroad, with the exception of the Disney Skyliner. Being able to hear the toot, toot of that train as it approached the Main Street Station while I was in my room makes my heart sing.
I happen to be a huge fan of all modes of Disney transportation, which is one reason my family has never rented a vehicle during our vacations to Walt Disney World. When our kids were younger, there was no way they’d let us get away with not riding a monorail or a boat if one was available. We lived within driving distance of WDW for years, too, and even though we drove our own car down, we didn’t use it often while we stayed on property. We knew that we’d have to allow up to 90 minutes to get to wherever we were going, but we felt that it was worth that investment in time as transportation was its own attraction.
Whether we went to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) from one of the theme parks and took the ferry to Magic Kingdom straight from there, or rode the monorail to one of the surrounding resorts, it was always an adventure. The fun thing about the boats on the Seven Seas Lagoon, in my opinion, is that they’re all different. Sometimes, you got a ferry that was almost as big as the one from the TTC, and other times, it was a far smaller boat.
Sometimes, the boats took a little longer due to their size and the number of passengers they could accommodate, but the breeze that came from the water as you sailed along was always welcomed.
Now that so many of the buses have been wrapped with some of our favorite Disney characters, I think it’s so fun to wait and see which characters you will get. I’ve seen quite a few drive by while hanging out on my balcony today, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Pluto. They’re larger than life and more exciting to see than the plain Disney buses we had years ago.
I even got to see several different types of Minnie Vans drive by as the theme park view provides a look at part of World Drive. I’ve always loved those red polka-dotted Minnie Vans, and it’s so fun to see them driving around!
Do you use Disney transportation during your Walt Disney World vacations? Which mode is your favorite?
