The Walt Disney Company is often light years ahead when it comes to technology. From groundbreaking movie magic to jaw-dropping animatronics, there’s no denying Disney’s grip on the future. Well, except in one very frustrating area. With every magical step forward, I’m still left wondering why my phone can’t make it past lunchtime without clinging to life at 3%. We’ve got Lightning Lanes, Mobile Order, park maps, wait times… all in the palm of our hands. It’s everything 10-year-old me could’ve dreamed of. So why are we still scrambling for outlets that are rarer than a hidden Mickey?
Here’s the problem: Disney keeps loading up our phones with essential features but isn’t giving us the power (literally) to keep up. You can buy a FuelRod, a charmingly overpriced battery stick, but in a world where shopping centers and cafes offer free USB-C ports, why can’t The Most Magical Place on Earth do the same? Picture this: your phone quietly charging under the table while you’re at a character breakfast. Or a quick top-up at a shaded lounge while waiting for your mobile order. The tech already exists, and Disney loves tech, so where is it? We’ve got everything we need on My Disney Experience and the Disneyland app, but not enough juice to sustain them.
At this point, I’ve started sympathizing with the woman I saw charging her phone in a restroom corner, sitting on the floor like it was a train station in 1998. I used to wonder how things got so desperate, clinging to a charger from home in a rarely available wall socket. Now I get it. With how much we rely on our phones just to exist in the parks, it’s not a luxury; it’s a necessity. I’ll bring my own cable, Disney. I just need a port. What do you think? Is it time for Disney to step into 2025 to help our phones survive the day with more than two token locations in Fantasyland? How do we have independently roaming character droids, but no way to keep our phones out of the dreaded red zone?
