Heading to the Disney Parks with young kids? Then you probably already know the importance of that one special toy, the beloved plush friend that comforts them through thick and thin. Whether it’s a tattered teddy, a floppy bunny, or a pint-sized Stitch, these familiar faces can help children feel secure in the excitement (and occasional overwhelm) of The Most Magical Place on Earth. But bringing a favorite toy to the parks is a bigger responsibility than it might seem. From experience, and a few near disasters, here are five tried-and-true tips to keep your little one’s buddy safe and close at hand.
1: Smaller Is Smarter
Sure, you might picture the perfect photo of your little one hugging Mickey with their oversized plush in tow, but trust us, bigger is not better. Oversized toys become cumbersome in queues, awkward on rides, and hard to stash when needed. Opt for a smaller, easily packable version of their favorite character, or even surprise them with a “park-sized” version bought just for the trip. It’s the perfect compromise between sentimental and sensible.
2: Don’t Leave It in the Stroller
Tempting as it is to tuck the toy into the stroller while you dash into an attraction, don’t. Unfortunately, strollers do occasionally get rifled through or moved by cast members, and toys left behind can easily fall out or get picked up by mistake. Always take plush friends with you, or secure them safely out of sight inside your bag. It’s a small step that could save a big meltdown later.
3: Tether It Like It’s Treasure
Kids have a knack for dropping their most treasured items at the worst possible moment — usually while waving them mid-ride or tossing them aside during a nap. Bring a cute ribbon, stroller clip, or plush leash to gently secure the toy to your child’s wrist or your stroller handle. That way, when the toy inevitably goes airborne, it doesn’t go far.
4: One Friend Only
We’ve seen it happen: a child juggling three plush toys, all gradually disappearing one by one. Keep things simple and manageable by bringing just one toy to the parks. Not only is it easier to keep track of, but it also gives that one friend VIP status for the trip, a great way to build special memories.
5: Label Like a Pro
Give your plush pal a little Disney-ready flair with a themed ribbon or necktie — then attach your contact info. A small luggage tag, ID sticker, or sewn-in label with your name and number can be a lifesaver. Lost toys do get turned in at Guest Services, and having a way to identify your child’s cherished companion greatly increases the odds of a happy reunion.
