Construction is well underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, where the world of Monsters, Inc. is taking shape as a fully realized land called Monstropolis. Developed through a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, the area will bring guests into the monster city fans know from the films.
Disney has now shared the narrative framing behind the land, tying it directly into the events of the original movie.
For generations, Monstropolis – The City Frightful – ran on scream power, and humans were considered dangerous and strictly off-limits… “23-19!” But that changed when James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski discovered that human laughter produces far more energy than screams. This changed how monsters saw humans altogether, turning fear into curiosity and laying the groundwork for something unprecedented.

When guests walk through the new Monsters, Inc. themed-land, they’ll be visiting during H.U.M.A.N. Day, which stands for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice”. The celebration marks the first time humans have been officially welcomed into Monstropolis, made possible by the city’s newly established Department of Human Relations. The department has been tasked with facilitating the cultural exchange between monster kind and human guests, and H.U.M.A.N. Day is its flagship event.

The Monstroplis Horn says more details about Harry Hausen’s and the Glob Theater can be found on page 8, column 15, which translates to August 15: the day the Disney Experiences Panel will take place at this year’s D23 Expo!

Within the land, guests can expect storefronts, monster-world industries, and character encounters throughout the city streets. One location just confirmed today is Harryhausen’s, the iconic restaurant from the film (where it’s impossible to get a reservation there… but not for Googly Bear). The Glob Theater, where Muppet*Vision 3D previously lived, was also referenced, though details on its programming have not yet been confirmed. The land’s premier attraction is a new roller coaster built around the door factory concept central to the films.

What do you think of Mostropolis so far? Do you think well see an all-new show at the Glob Theater, or will the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor concept move over from Magic Kingdom?
