Disney Magic rescues 5 Cuban rafters

Two weeks ago, the Disney Magic rescued a man who had fallen overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas; this weekend, the ship picked up five Cubans who were adrift on a raft made of metal barrels. About 23 miles from Cuba, on Friday, January 23 around noon, the Disney Magic came upon the raft, which was made of metal barrels soldered with metal bars. There were jugs of water and some other belongings onboard.

The cruise ship pulled up to the raft and opened the side door to provide access into the ship. The rafters had apparently been on the raft for three days; the Disney Magic was headed to Castaway Cay as part of a seven-night Western Caribbean itinerary. The Cubans were handed over to the U.S Coast Guard two hours later.

The Disney ship arrived at Castaway Cay on time and as scheduled.
