Disney has released Disney Mix, a new chat app for kids, tweens and families. The app is similar to other messaging apps that are available, but adds the capability to play games, create memes, and share a variety of Disney stickers.
Because of the community aspect of the app, kids can play the app’s interactive games together. The app’s content comes from across the Disney spectrum, including Monsters University, Toy Story, Finding Dory, Adventures in Babysitting, and Descendants.
If kids add Disney accounts to their friends list, such as Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Movies, they will be alerted of new photos, videos, and news.
There are also adult moderators to keep the community safe and family-friendly. When kids sign up, they will get a message to “stay safe, be respectful and keep it clean.” The moderators can be called upon when needed by clicking on a whistle icon on the screen. Parents are asked to discuss the app and the community with their kids and if there are problems, to submit feedback so the experience can be improved.
According to TechCrunch, “Disney Mix adheres to the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which restricts how companies operating services directed to children are allowed to collect and use personal information.”
The app is listed as for children 4+ and is available for free on the App Store or Google Play.
