Hey friends! If there’s one thing I’ve learned over countless Disney trips, it’s that the parks are delightfully unpredictable. Ride closures, changing crowd behaviors, and those little surprises around every corner can make a Disney day feel like a rollercoaster before you even step foot on a ride. The good news? You can stay in control of the things you can manage, and the best way to do that is by being prepared the night before.
There’s more than excitement in the air when you’re trying to sleep before a big Disney day. Whether it’s your very first Disney vacation or day 10 of your 20th trip, staying on top of the day ahead is always the best way to tick off your must-do experiences. To help make that morning as smooth as possible, here are my five go-to night-before steps.
1. Make a List of Important Times
Before you tuck in for the night, jot down all the times you’ll need to remember: park opening and closing hours, bus or transport departure times, and the time you want to arrive at the park. Add any dining reservations to the list as well. I like to keep a running note on my phone and delete items as we move past them. Knowing the parameters of where you want to be and when makes keeping everything else in order much easier.
2. Set Wake-Up and Departure Time
Use those times to plan when everyone should wake up and leave the house or hotel. Factor in time for breakfast, whether it’s a quick bite at the resort or a coffee and croissant on the go (my personal style). Giving yourself enough time for each stop will prevent morning stress. Make sure everyone, even the kids, is aware of the plan. You might hold the keys to the alarm, but giving the kids a heads-up that they’ll be up early always helps. Pro tip: set two alarms just in case!
3. Lay Out Everyone’s Clothes
Whether you’re Disney Bounding in something special or sticking with your everyday look from home, save yourself from early-morning wardrobe chaos. Fold each person’s outfit into a separate pile so no one is scrambling for a missing sock or top in the morning fog. This small step can save a lot of frustration before you even leave the room, and also gives you a last-minute opportunity to check for stains.

4. Pack the Backpack
I swear by packing my backpack the night before. Include everything except what you’ll need last-minute, like your phone. Go through your checklist carefully, emergency ponchos, power packs, sunscreen, and snacks, so nothing sneaky is missing. That way, when the morning comes, you can grab and go without hunting for that one essential item.
5. Charge Everything
This is a big one. Backup battery packs, MagicBand+, cell phones, portable fans, or anything that runs on power should be fully charged before bed. Lining everything up the night before means you can switch it all on and go without a last-minute panic.
Getting ready for the perfect Disney day starts long before you arrive at the park, but how you handle the night before can set the tone for a calm, well-planned morning. Take care of the things you can control so that the unexpected is easy to handle if it comes your way. And don’t forget a little self-care: hydrate before bed and stretch to keep your muscles from stiffening overnight.
Follow these five steps and you’ll be ready to hit the parks feeling organized, energized, and ready to enjoy every magical moment.
