Disney is pulling back the construction walls on several of the biggest projects currently taking shape at Walt Disney World in the newest episode of We Call It Imagineering.
The latest installment focuses on Disney architecture, exploring how Imagineers use everything from building size and shape to materials, landscaping, and sightlines to make environments inside Disney theme parks feel believable. The episode goes back to the architectural decisions behind Disneyland’s construction before jumping ahead to projects Imagineers are working on today.
For Walt Disney World fans, there’s quite a bit to see. Disney offers a look at exterior façade work underway at Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, along with a visit to the sample yard for Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Imagineers are testing the themed finishes that will eventually help bring the new land to life.
We also get to peek behind the construction walls at Piston Peak National Park in Magic Kingdom for a look at balloon testing. This process allows Imagineers to test the height and visibility of future structures before they’re actually built, helping determine what guests will and won’t see from different locations around the park. Those sightlines are important!
The episode also visits Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, the new Disney Vacation Club Resort scheduled to open July 1, 2027. Disney says Imagineers are combining physical and digital architecture there as they continue exploring new ways to create immersive environments.
Along the way, Disney also turns the spotlight on The Walt Disney Studios at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, using existing Disney environments to show how architecture and landscaping work together to tell a story.
