Waiting in line, and being in a Disney park are synonymous with each other. It isn’t uncommon to wait an hour or more for some of the most beloved attractions. This is why you need to prepare your children for these waits. Here are the 4 best ways to keep your kids busy while waiting in lines in a Disney park:
4) iPad/iPhone
I cringe as I write this. I think that waiting in lines together is a good opportunity to spend quality time with each other, but I do recognize the iPad/iPhones effectiveness of keeping children occupied. Some of my favorite memories coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland with my family wasn’t on the attractions, but the laughing and storytelling we would do together waiting in the lines. But if your children need the constant brain stimulation of a screen then this is an option. I personally hope that you at least use an iPad or an iPhone to play interactive games that include the whole family, but who am I to judge.

3) Plan Your Day Together
I think it’s crucial to use the time in line together to plan out what your family wants to do next. Figuring out a plan while everyone is together. Discussing where everyone wants to eat, what ride to go on next, or if you should park hop, are all good things to talk about while waiting in line. Hashing out all the details while everyone is together is a great way to be a well oiled machine. Creating these plans is how to most effectively explore the Disney parks. In Walt Disney World you can even use the My Disney Experience mobile app to book your FastPasses while you wait.
2) Dollar Store Games
Whether it is coloring books, or cheap cardboard matching games, the dollar store can provide cheap games to keep your family occupied. The best part is, if you lose these little games throughout your vacation you don’t have to feel remorse because they were only a dollar. If the Florida rain leaves these coloring books or games sopping wet you can just throw them out. The dollar store can be a parent’s best friend when planning a Disney parks vacation, and these little games are a great addition to the dollar store vacation shopping list.
1) I Spy
I am sure you have played it before, but if you need me to refresh your memory: I spy is a guessing game where the Spy says “I spy with my little eye…” and the rest of the players/family members have to guess the object the Spy saw. The Disney parks are filled with little details that are perfect for I Spy. This game can keep the entire family entertained, and it’s a great way to appreciate the little details in the queue that you may have never noticed before. Playing I Spy with your children might give you a chance to understand what piques their interests, and they might show you little things that you’ve never seen before in the parks.
