Update on Pedestrian Walkway Being Built Between Disney’s Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom

Over the years, many guests have wished that there was a pedestrian walkway from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom.

You might know that along that monorail route, there is a waterway where the floats for the Electrical Water Pageant come and go from the Seven Seas Lagoon and that has prevented the construction of a walkway until Disney figured out a way to make it happen.

Earlier this year, permits were filed to begin building the walking path and today, we’re sharing some recent images of the work being done.

In this first image, you can see the actual bridge that pedestrians will walk across.

As you can see, this bridge is unique in that it will rotate out to allow boats to pass by instead of raising up like a traditional drawbridge. This next image shows the pivot point that will move the bridge to the left or right to allow boats to pass through.

Once this bridge opens, guests will be able to walk nearly the full circle of the monorail Resorts – you still cannot walk from the Contemporary to the Transportation & Ticket Center. Disney has not made an announcement yet as to when this bridge will open to guests.

This walk isn’t going to be quite as short as the one between Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Contemporary Resort, but it should make a nice alternative at the end of the evening after the fireworks for those who are staying at the Grand Floridian and don’t want to wait in the long lines for the boat or monorail.
