Summer vacation is just around the corner, and that means it is time to start planning your vacation to the Disneyland Resort. We know vacationing can be challenging, especially finding gluten-friendly items to eat. Fear not, my gluten-free friends, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Disneyland Resort has plenty of allergy friendly options. Here are my top 6 gluten-free finds that are a must to try!
6. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque
Located at Jolly Holiday in Disneyland
This wonderful comfort food duo will put you in the right mood in the happiest place on earth! You can never go wrong with gooey melted cheddar cheese in between toasted bread and dunking it in a hot bath of tomato basil bisque. This is such a great guilty pleasure!
5. Red Velvet Cupcake and Chocolate Chip Cookie
Located at Sprinkles in The Downtown Disney District
Have a sweet tooth? The gluten-free red velvet cupcake always hits the spot. The moist luxurious cake is topped with a rich cream cheese buttercream and a “G” made out of fondant to assure the eater that it is gluten-free. Let’s not forget their chocolate chip cookie! This massive cookie is crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Sprinkles has the ratio of chocolate chips to batter down to a science. You will always have a taste of bittersweet chocolate morsels with every bite. Here is a tip: take it home and pop it in the microwave for a few seconds and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can thank me later.
4. Flat Bread
Located at Napa Rose in the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa
Get ready to carbo load when you come here. Napa Rose serves a gluten-free flatbread with melted Parmesan cheese. The flatbread is a pizza crust with aromatic seasonings like rosemary and garlic baked into it. It is sliced up and baked with a nutty Parmesan cheese on top. I love enjoying the taste of the flatbread with a glass of wine, and since this is Napa Rose, they definitely have an extensive wine menu to choose from.
3. Bread Service
Located at Carthay Circle Restaurant in Disney California Adventure
Warm toasted bread just got elevated to the next level. Carthay Circle has me addicted to their bread. The buns are cut in half and toasted with olive oil and seasoned with salt and parsley. This may not sound like a lot to deserve a spot on the list, but trust me, it is!
2. Corn Arepas
Located at Uva Bar in the Downtown Disney District
These crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside corn cakes are excellent. These delectable cakes are layered with savory guacamole, tender pulled pork, and garnished with thinly sliced red onions and micro cilantro. This appetizer is great to share or to eat for a light dinner. You can even pair it with an Estrella Daura Damm Lager. Yes, you read that right… BEER! This is the best lager I have ever tried and I am thrilled they have it here!
1. Monte Cristo
Located at Cafe Orleans and Blue Bayou in Disneyland
This is seriously the BEST all time gluten-free find in the Disneyland Resort! This mouthwatering crunchy sandwich will have you wanting to come back for more! There are two types guests can choose from: The Classic Monte Cristo, which is a Swiss cheese, sliced ham and turkey sandwich lightly battered and deep fried to golden perfection and dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of berry jam and fruit. The other option is the Three-Cheese Monte Cristo, which is a Swiss, mozzarella, and brie cheese sandwich deep fried and dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of berry jam and fruit.
Anyone who wants to get their hands around either of these amazing sandwiches will need to plan in advance. You will need to book a reservation to the restaurant, then call Disney Dining [(714) 781-DINE or (714) 781-3463)] at least 24 hours in advance and provide your reservation information in order to pre-order your sandwich. This is really important or the restaurant cannot fulfill this request. Also, it doesn’t hurt to follow up with the host when you check in for your meal to ensure the restaurant has your initial request.
Well, there you have it, the top 6 gluten-free finds in the Disneyland Resort! I hope you will enjoy these scrumptious eats like I do!
