After much speculation, runDisney has confirmed that all half marathons and other races set to take place at the Disneyland Resort beyond next month’s Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend will not happen.
Several months ago, runDisney postponed registration for the Light Side Star Wars event scheduled in January, leading to much social media discussion about the future of the races in Anaheim.
According to spokesperson George Savvas, construction on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the new upscale hotel set to be built in the Downtown Disney parking lot “impact our ability to deliver the runDisney experience our guests love.”
The Disneyland races typically begin and end at the Disneyland Resort, but routes for some of the races wind through the city of Anaheim. With the Eastern Gateway project still stalled, Disney’s current relationship with the city is a bit tenuous, leading to to speculation that construction might not be the only reason for the cancellations.
Savvas also said that Disney has considered other options to keep the runDisney events, but couldn’t come up with a plan.
The Super Heroes Half Marathon weekend will take place November 9th through the 12th.
