Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro Announces a Loss of 28,000 Jobs

UPDATE: According to an article written in the Orlando Sentinel Wednesday, approximately 6,700 of the workers being laid off are non-union. Take a look at this article for more details.

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, issued a statement today confirming a reduction in staff at the division, affecting 28,000 Cast Members in domestic theme parks.

D’Amaro said that they’ve made the “difficult decision” to reduce the workforce at all levels. Until today, Disney had been keeping non-working Cast Members on furlough and continued to pay healthcare benefits. About 67% of the Cast Members affected by today’s announcement were part-time Cast Members.

D’Amaro added that the situation has been “exacerbated in California by the State’s unwillingness to lift restrictions.”
