SeaWorld Partners with OCEARCH to Share Data with Public OCEARCH

In an effort to spread valuable research information with not only scientists but the general public as well, SeaWorld has joined forces with OCEARCH. Through the use of their Global Shark Tracker, OCEARCH open-sources real-time data on a number of marine species that can be utilized by scientists and the public to add insight on aquatic life and biological studies.

The multiyear partnership means that OCEARCH can now provide public access to data on rescued and returned marine animals that have been in SeaWorld’s care; to date, SeaWorld has rescued over 31,000 animals. The organization’s site is already providing information on 3 animals that have been rescued and returned by SeaWorld: Gale (pilot whale), T.J. (dolphin), and Iris (harbor seal).

This data can be accessed by all, and their Global Shark Tracker can be found at OCEARCH.org, which explains,

“In a collaborative environment established by Founding Chairman and Expedition Leader Chris Fischer, OCEARCH shares real-time data through OCEARCH’s Global Shark Tracker, inspires current and future generations of explorers, scientists, and stewards of the ocean, and enables leading researchers and institutions to generate previously unattainable data.”
