Zootopia 2 is officially the newest billion-dollar hit for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film is set to cross the $1 billion global box office mark on Friday, reaching the milestone in only 17 days. It has earned $986.1 million to date, with $232.7 million from domestic theaters and $753.4 million internationally. It becomes the second Motion Picture Association title of 2025 to pass $1 billion, following Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, and is now the fastest animated MPA release and fastest PG-rated film ever to reach the milestone.
The sequel also delivers a historic moment for the studio. Zootopia 2 marks Disney Animation’s first back-to-back billion-dollar achievement, following last year’s Moana 2. The studio’s billion-dollar slate now includes Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana 2, Zootopia, and Zootopia 2.
Studio Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush credits the film’s success to the team’s passion and storytelling, noting the importance of audiences returning to theaters for shared cinematic experiences.

Zootopia 2 opened on November 26 with a record-shattering five-day debut of $559.5 million, the biggest global animated opening in history and the highest worldwide opening of 2025. With a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A CinemaScore, the film continues to hold strong across international markets.
China has played a significant role in the film’s performance. Zootopia 2 delivered a $272 million opening there, the country’s highest animated debut ever for a non-local release. It has already become the highest-grossing non-local animated film of all time in China, reaching $447 million and ranking as the No. 2 MPA release ever in the market.
The film’s theatrical momentum has fueled renewed interest in the franchise on Disney+. Viewership of the original Zootopia and the spinoff series Zootopia+ has exceeded 725 million hours worldwide, reinforcing the franchise’s enduring popularity.
