Walt Disney World is sharing a closer look at what’s coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with the new Tropical Americas land, and the more we hear, the clearer it becomes that this isn’t just another expansion. There’s a lot of intention behind it.

Set to open in 2027, Tropical Americas will bring a brand-new area called Pueblo Esperanza to the park. Think of it the same way Harambe anchors Africa or Anandapur defines Asia. This will be a fully realized town with its own story, culture, and sense of place. And based on what Imagineering is sharing, they’re going all in on making it feel real.

A big part of that comes from the research happening behind the scenes. Imagineers have been traveling through parts of Central and South America, including Honduras and Colombia, to study everything from architecture and materials to traditions and everyday life. This isn’t surface-level inspiration. They’re working directly with artists and craftspeople, including Maya carvers tied to the historic Copán site, to bring authentic details into the land. Even the stone being used has roots in the region, which is a level of detail Animal Kingdom fans will appreciate.

Disney’s storytelling is a huge part of the picture here, too. This land isn’t only about real-world inspiration. It pulls from familiar stories such as Encanto and Indiana Jones. Ever since it was announced, the Encanto attraction feels like one guests will flock to. They’ll have a chance to actually step into Antonio’s world and see his connection with animals up close, which fits perfectly with what Animal Kingdom has always been about.

The way Imagineering balances storytelling with the real world is always incredible to me. This isn’t just IP dropped into a new space. It’s being built around a region where nature and culture are deeply connected, which fits perfectly with what Animal Kingdom has always tried to do.
There’s still more to learn as we get closer to 2027, but one thing is already clear. Tropical Americas isn’t being rushed. It’s being built with purpose. Are you excited to see this new land come to life at Walt Disney World?
