For many Walt Disney World guests, going out to eat plays a huge part in their vacation experience as a whole. Whether grabbing a Mickey-shaped snack between riding attractions, enjoying a character breakfast, or sitting down for a fancy dinner at a signature restaurant, meals often become one of the most memorable parts of any Disney trip.
Disney Dining Plans allow guests staying at Disney-owned and operated resort hotels to prepay for meals and snacks before they arrive. While dining plans aren’t a good fit for every family, they can make budgeting easier and simplify vacation planning.
If you’re considering adding a dining plan to your next Walt Disney World vacation, here’s what you need to know.
What Is a Disney Dining Plan?
A Disney Dining Plan is an optional add-on available to guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. Instead of paying for meals as you go, you’ll receive a set number of meals and snacks that can be redeemed throughout your stay.
Dining plans are tied to the length of your resort reservation, and all guests ages 3 and older on the reservation must purchase the same plan.
Disney currently offers two dining plan options, with the Deluxe Dining Plan returning in 2027:
- Quick-Service Dining Plan
- Disney Dining Plan (Table-Service Dining Plan)
- Deluxe Dining Plan
Not sure which one is right for your family? We’ve put together detailed guides for each option:

How Do Disney Dining Plans Work?
Dining plans operate on a credit system. Depending on the plan you purchase, you’ll receive a specific number of meal and snack credits for your stay.
One of the biggest advantages is flexibility. Credits don’t have to be used on a day-by-day basis. Instead, they’re pooled together and can be redeemed whenever you choose during your vacation.

That means you can enjoy a larger dining day at EPCOT, say for a Dining Package with guaranteed seating for a concert during a Festival. You can choose to take it easy the next day, or save credits for a special meal later in your trip.
It’s important to keep in mind that any unused credits expire at midnight on the day you check out.
Are Disney Dining Plans Worth It?
This is probably the most common question Disney vacation planners ask and debate, if we’re being completely honest. The answer really depends on how your family likes to travel… and eat!
A dining plan may be worth considering if you:
- Prefer to budget most vacation expenses before arrival
- Enjoy ordering what you want without constantly checking menu prices
- Plan to eat most meals at Disney-owned restaurants
- Want to include character dining or table-service meals in your plans
- Like the convenience of having meals prepaid

On the other hand, a dining plan may not be the best fit if you:
- Typically share meals
- Eat lighter meals or skip meals regularly
- Plan to spend significant time dining off property
- Have very selective eaters who may not fully use their credits
The best way to determine value is to estimate where you plan to eat and compare those costs against the price of the dining plan you’re considering.
Quick-Service vs. Table-Service Dining
When comparing these plans, it helps if you understand the difference between Disney’s two primary meal categories.
Quick-Service Restaurants
Quick-service locations are Disney’s counter-service restaurants. You order at a register or through Mobile Order and find your own seating.
A few popular examples include:
- Connections Eatery at EPCOT
- Columbia Harbour House at Magic Kingdom
- Flame Tree Barbecue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
These locations are a perfect option for guests who want to maximize park time by eating quickly while still enjoying quality meals.

Table-Service Restaurants
Table-service restaurants offer a traditional sit-down dining experience with a server.
Popular options include:
Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made up to 60 days before check-in for Disney Resort hotel guests.
Don’t Forget About Snacks
For many Disney fans, snack credits are almost as important as meal credits.

Depending on your dining plan, snack credits can be redeemed for hundreds of eligible items across Walt Disney World, including:
- Mickey pretzels
- Popcorn
- Ice cream treats
- Specialty cupcakes
- Festival food items at EPCOT
- Select beverages
You’ll find a dining plan symbol on menus identifying eligible snack items. If you have extra snack credits at the end of your vacation, look for single-serving, packaged items and throw them into your suitcase for a little bit of Disney magic at home!
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Dining Plan
Make dining reservations early
Popular restaurants can book quickly, especially character meals and signature dining locations. But don’t forget to check back periodically if your desired location wasn’t available to book initially. You’ll sometimes find availability as little as the night before due to last-minute cancellations. Also, some dining locations offer a walk-up list, so if there’s a restaurant you’d like to dine at, you can stop by and see if they’re accepting walk-ups, or simply check the My Disney Experience app.
Use the My Disney Experience app
The app makes it easy to track remaining credits throughout your vacation.
Consider your vacation style
The best dining plan isn’t always the one with the most credits. Think about how much time you actually want to spend dining during your trip.
Save credits for special experiences
Character meals, signature restaurants, and unique dining experiences can help maximize the value of certain dining plans.
Should You Add a Dining Plan to Your Walt Disney World Vacation?
For many families, Disney Dining Plans offer convenience, flexibility, and a way to lock in a large portion of vacation costs before arriving.
Others may find that paying out of pocket works better for their travel style.
For table-service and signature dining, you will be presented with a bill for gratuity as that is not included in any of the Disney Dining Plans.
The good news is that there isn’t a wrong answer. The best choice is the one that fits your family’s budget, dining habits, and vacation goals.
If you’re still trying to decide, our detailed dining plan guides can help you compare the options and determine which plan, if any, makes the most sense for your next Walt Disney World vacation.
