When I first heard that a Monsters, Inc. Land might replace Grand Avenue (previously Muppets Courtyard), my initial reaction was sadness. Muppet fans are passionate, and this news will undoubtedly devastate many of them (sorry Chloé Ferreira). However, once I accepted the inevitable, I found myself excited about the possibilities. Let’s be honest—this area of the park has been overdue for some attention. While it would have been great to see an investment in enhancing the Muppets theming, it seems the decision to move forward with Monsters, Inc. is final.
Highlights from the Concept Art
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Moving to the Muppet*Vision 3D Theater?
This move would make perfect sense. It has not been confirmed that this will be the show in the theater, but it would make sense. The new land immerses guests in the monster world, so relocating the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor here feels natural. Plus, this shift opens up Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom for significant updates. With Stitch’s Great Escape empty for years and Laugh Floor potentially vacated, Tomorrowland would have space for much-needed new attractions in its front half.
Harryhausen’s Replacing Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano
While Mama Melrose’s has its fans, it’s rarely anyone’s standout dining experience at Walt Disney World. If it’s replaced by a fully themed Harryhausen’s sushi restaurant, it could become an instant hit. A creative menu and immersive atmosphere would likely make it a highly sought-after reservation, taking some pressure off other popular restaurants like Roundup Rodeo BBQ.
The Muppets Overlay at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster!
This is an exciting prospect! Aerosmith, though iconic, hasn’t been relevant to younger audiences for decades. A Muppets-themed coaster centered around Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem would be a fresh and fun update. Hopefully, it avoids tying too closely to The Muppets Mayhem series, which could feel dated quickly, and instead focuses on timeless Muppets humor and music.
Goodbye, PizzeRizzo!
Let’s face it—theme park pizza is rarely great, and PizzeRizzo is no exception. If Monsters, Inc. Land brings a complete overhaul to this space, including a menu upgrade, it could become a standout dining option. However, if it simply rebrands to “PizzeRoz-o” without addressing the quality of the food, it will be a missed opportunity.
What’s Disappointing
Animation Courtyard Left Untouched
It’s frustrating that the Animation Courtyard continues to sit neglected. This area desperately needs a complete overhaul, and Monsters, Inc. Land would have been a perfect fit here. While Grand Avenue needs attention, the Courtyard feels like an even bigger missed opportunity.
Fans Reactions
Here are a few comments I gathered from the initial reactions to The DIS social media posts. The feedback seems mixed but highlights some interesting points about why these changes could be seen as either positive or negative for Walt Disney World.
Angela M says, “I’m not okay with this. As someone who hates coasters, I will be sad I won’t get my Muppet fix anymore. I know the theater needed some love, but still. It was always a great laugh, and the kids seemed to really enjoy it.”
Melissa M says, “I’m ok with this news. I thought I would be upset with the removal of Muppet Vision 3D if they were to proceed with Monsters Inc moving into this area… but I’m glad to hear that the Muppets will still be a part of the park!”
Charlotte J says, “I have adored MuppetVision 3D since it opened and enjoyed the show many times, but it really is dated. A Muppets-themed Rock ’N’ Roller Coaster sounds great to me. Maybe there will be Muppets characters in the courtyard? I’ll ride it if I ever come back to Disney, but they’d have to stop treating disabled people like less than human for me to do that, and sadly, I don’t think that’s going to change.”
Sara H.A. says, “Stinks that something meant for kids of all ages is now a roller coaster. We need to keep some simple family-friendly places. Not everyone enjoys thrill rides. I’m so sad they felt like they needed to get rid of a classic! We go every time. I love this attraction, and it shouldn’t go away!”
While there’s a lot to be excited about with this new Monsters, Inc. development, some decisions leave room for debate. It will be interesting to see how these changes shape the future of Hollywood Studios and the park experience overall.
