The Muppets have dropped a last-minute video featuring Joe the Legal Weasel ahead of the opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, and somehow, it might be the most perfect piece of pre-launch content they’ve put out in a long time.
Because here’s the thing. Disney cares a lot about what things are called. Not kind of a lot. Not casually. A LOT.
Every attraction name, every trademark, every tiny wording choice is intentional. It’s why you don’t just ride “Guardians of the Galaxy.” You ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. It’s why cast members are trained to say full names, and why signage, announcements, and even their official blog posts stick to exact phrasing.
Most guests don’t even think twice about it.
Enter Joe the Legal Weasel.
The whole bit works because he leans all the way into that hyper-specific Disney naming culture and just runs with it. He takes something that could easily feel corporate and turns it into a joke that actually lands. It’s self-aware in a way Disney doesn’t always allow itself to be.
And it’s funny because it’s true.
We’ve all shortened attraction names before. Everyone has. You’re not walking across the park telling your family, “Let’s head over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.” You say, “Let’s go ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.” Maybe you add “the Muppets one” if you need to clarify.
Joe’s whole message basically calls that out without actually scolding anyone. It just highlights how serious Disney is about those details, while poking fun at it at the same time.
That balance is hard to hit, and this nails it.
It also feels very on-brand for The Muppets. They’ve always worked best when they’re breaking the fourth wall a little bit, calling out the absurdity of whatever situation they’re in. Having a “legal weasel” step in to explain naming conventions is exactly the kind of weird, specific humor that fits.
I totally think Disney should lean into this more.
If you’re going to have incredibly long, very specific attraction names, why not have Joe pop in and explain all of them occasionally? I would absolutely watch a series of these. Give me Joe explaining TRON Lightcycle / Run. Give me Joe tackling Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. There’s a whole library of material here.
This one video does something small but important. It makes the Disney nomenclature feel fun instead of rigid.
And if you can make Disney legal language funny, you’ve already won.
