A Day at Disney – November 17th, 2016

Today is a little shorter of a blog. I was at the Magic Kingdom for like six hours, but a lot of it was just me writing articles from the park so there isn’t too much to tell you about that. Anyways lets get into it!

I got there fairly early. I think it was around 10 a.m., or so. I parked in the Hero’s Lot, and of course when I got there I got sent down to the very end of the row. If you don’t know what this means, basically any of the Disney parking lots are massive, and everyone fills into the parking lot one after the other. When a row is complete the cast members of course start a new row. Well the row starts at the furthest point possible from the tram, so it means you have to walk an extra couple minutes, which really shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but it always bugs me for some reason. Mini-rant over.

Anyways, so I walked into the Magic Kingdom and realized that many of you haven’t seen the Christmas decorations from this year yet. So I ran around Main Street U.S.A. taking a bunch of pictures of the decorations, and I posted them on the DIS Unplugged Facebook page, so go check that out if you want to see them!

After that I had to write my first article of the day. I took my iPad out of my backpack and started working in the train station. It was here that I really realized the sensory overload that happens in a Disney park. All the music, smells, and children screaming. It was almost too distracting to write my article, so I looked for a new spot to work. I tried writing on the PeopleMover, but disappointingly I couldn’t hold the iPad still while riding. Finally I settled at the Tomorrowland Terrace. I didn’t realize how low on battery the iPad was already so I asked a cast member where an outlet might be. She was incredibly rude, so I proceeded to write an article about how the service of cast members has declined out of spite of this woman. That was actually a big portion of my day. It was a lot of sitting on the ground in the Tomorrowland Terrace writing.

Eventually I realized it was 3:30 p.m. and I hadn’t had lunch. I walked over to Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square, and as I walked in I realized there was almost no one there. At first I figured it might be because it was too late for lunch, and too early for dinner. I then asked a cast member, “Where is everyone?” He responded, “We close at 4:30 tonight due to a cast member service appreciation night. My guess is that they already left to go to another park, or back to their resorts.” This threw me for a loop. I mean I was planning on leaving around 4:30 p.m. anyways, but I had just never heard of the park closing that early.

Anyways back to the food. I ordered the the chicken pot pie for the first time. Oh my goodness gracious! It was delicious. The chicken, corn, and whatever else makes up a chicken pot pie were extremely savory. The top of it was kinda weird because it didn’t have a top like a traditional chicken pot pie would. It was a little pricey though, with a regular soda it came out to about $16 dollars. Still I think it was well worth it. I believe the chicken pot pie is fairly new to the menu, and all I can say was that it was a great addition.

After lunch I ran back to Tomorrowland and hopped on both Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, as they both had extremely short lines under 10 minutes. And that was really all for my day. It was mostly just writing articles, so I hope this didn’t bore you too much.
