An emergency alert was sent to smart phones in Hawaii at 8:07 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018. The alert read, “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL,” which, fortunately, turned out to be a false alarm. This massive mistake reportedly prompted Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, to be evacuated onto a field outside of the resort. It is unclear why they weren’t seeking shelter, and instead were brought outside. When more details or reports from other guests are made available we will report on them immediately.
Guests took to Twitter to talk about the false emergency alert and the evacuation of the resort:
AULANI evacuated the whole hotel?? Made us go to the grassy field outside??

@cnnbrk Here in Hawaii, Kaiser High School was locked down: students and teachers for their key club meeting, Aulani was evacuated, people were calling loved ones… my goodness…

Aulani needs a refresher bc you’re supposed to find shelter not put yourself out in the open https://t.co/dwLWXRhcRe
