Disney Debate: Can a Disney Gap Year Reignite Your Passion?

Disney Debate: Can A Disney Gap Year Reignite Your Passion? Cinderella-Castle-1

If you ask a Disney Parks fan if they will ever get bored of the parks, they will likely reply with shock and horror, exclaiming a strong and defiant, NEVER! However, that doesn’t always mean that we can’t all experience some burnout when it comes to the Most Magical Place on Earth. When I hear Disney fans start to complain in a more general sense about the parks, sometimes, I am a little taken aback. Not because they aren’t right in any given circumstance but because there is always a part of me that sees the ability to visit Disney Parks as a luxury that we are lucky enough to opt in to, or out of, as the case may be. It’s a perspective that some have questioned over the years, and I’ve come to realize that the source of it is from living so far away from Disney that every visit feels unwaveringly special.

Have you ever heard the phrase, absence makes the heart grow fonder? Well, being a Disney parks lover from the shores of Australia is the perfect example of this. Every trip is enormous, intentional, and meaningful, with the time in between serving as an undesired gap year of sorts. I believe this is why I not only never grow tired of the magic but also never find myself at the point of excess exposure where I can emotionally afford to find negativity in my stay. One might think of it as rose-colored glasses, but I am predisposed to seeing the good and moving past the rest, and I do wonder if this is because of how my family and I travel in general.

Admittedly, we travel more than most—some people like fancy cars, and others like expensive shoes. I love seeing new places and experiencing things. Because of this, we are always on the move. While Disney is a huge part of what I love to do, our trips to the parks are dotted in between discovering the rest of the world. For me, this adds to the freshness of travel, seeing new places while also returning to appreciate the Disney that I know and love. It makes me wonder, could a Disney gap year be just what the average disgruntled Disney lover needs?

This brings me to this week’s Disney Debate. When all of your travel opportunities reach the same destination, it would be easy to start seeing the cracks. Instead of writing off the Disney Parks, maybe all that you need is a Disney Gap Year to rediscover their beauty. Have you ever taken a break from visiting Disney and returned to enjoy it even more? Or, are you like I am, where your proximity to the parks is undesirably far, leaving you with more time between visits than you would like?

On the other side of things, maybe you’ve said goodbye to Disney in the past and enough time has gone by that you are ready to rediscover your passion for the magic. Let me know what you think.
