My first visit to the Walt Disney World Resort wasn’t until the Spring of 2008. When I first watched the Spectromagic parade, I thought it was cool, albeit, similar to the Main Street Electrical Parade that I’d grown to love. You see, I visited Disneyland only once as a child when I was around eight years old and, at that time, the parade went down Main Street, U.S.A.
Fast forward to 2003 when I returned to Disneyland as an adult with my then two and six-year olds. Disney’s Electrical Parade took place over in Disney’s California Adventure Park which, even though I flipped out when I heard the familiar music, seemed odd to me – almost as if it were in the wrong place.
When the Main Street Electrical Parade was brought to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World a few years back, I was pretty excited since we don’t live far from there. We planned a quick weekend trip to go welcome the parade to the East coast and, after seeing it, I wasn’t sure that I loved it quite as much as I once did. It was different. The floats were different, there was just enough of a difference in the music to be noticeable, and the whole feeling I got from it was just not the same – as magical as it was.
Late last year when the announcement was made that the Main Street Electrical Parade would be returning to the Disneyland Resort, my heart was happy. Although I’m going to miss not being able to see the parade often as we don’t get to Disneyland much, I am in love with the way the parade looks and sounds once again and I couldn’t be any happier to see it on Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. once again. As I watched its debut, I had a Ratatouille-type flashback to when I was eight standing there with my Mickey bar. That’s Pixie Dust right there, folks.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch the parade’s run on its first night “home,” pull up a comfy chair and take a look. Pay close attention to see if you can catch the brief interruption of my favorite 1970’s song in there just before you see Cinderella’s float!
The Main Street Electrical Parade has returned to Disneyland for a limited-time engagement through June 18, 2017, but I really hope they keep it there forever. Anyone else agree? Let us know in the comments below or join the discussion on our Facebook page.
