Disney Cruise Line has just announced big changes coming to the Disney Dream during a dry dock planned for October 4-24, 2015 in Freeport, Bahamas.
In the Oceaneer Club, a new play area will be themed around the Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars films. Kids will join the Rebel Alliance and help pilot the ship from the cockpit. They’ll be able to go through hyperspace and jump to different points around the galaxy. There will also be Star Wars Rebels gaming stations; themed crafts, games and activities; and showings of Star Wars Rebels on a large screen.
Another space will be inspired by the Disney Infinity video game. There will be a Toy Box area, allowing kids to play together using both virtual experiences and immersive activities. On-screen adventures can be customized with all their favorite Disney characters. Kids can even unlock exclusive Disney Cruise Line content to use in their Disney Infinity games at home. Disney Parks Blog describes one new experience:
“A life-sized Disney Infinity Base sets the stage where children take the place of character figures for a group gaming experience unlike any other. Lighting up in response to gameplay on a large screen, this interactive floor will allow kids to be immersed in the Toy Box.”
The Oceaneer Club isn’t the only area of the ship that will see improvements. Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats will serve handmade gelato and ice cream, candy and novelty treats. The decor will be themed to the Sugar Rush race car game in Wreck-It Ralph, including a “race track and checkerboard patterned floor, gas pump-style gumball dispensers, Vanellope’s race car and King Candy’s throne.” Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats will be on Deck 11 and can be accessed through Cabana’s or from the pool deck.
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique from the parks will now be on the Disney Dream, Deck 5 midship. Kids ages 3 to 12 will be able to transform into a princess or knight; on pirate night, the salon becomes The Pirates League for full pirate makeovers.
In the adult area on Deck 13 forward, a Satellite Falls water feature will be added, just like on the Disney Fantasy. This is a “circular splash pool with benches and a gently falling rain curtain.” The area will also provide loungers for sun bathing or a canopy for those who wish to relax in the shade.
All of these enhancements will debut on the October 26 four-night cruise leaving from Port Canaveral.
