The Best Disney World Hotel to Book for Halloween Season

Halloween at Disney World is a pretty big deal. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) 2026 runs multiple nights a week from August 7 through Halloween (and Halloween night sold out within 2 hours on release day!). Where you stay can make or break the experience, especially when midnight rolls around and you’re weighing the monorail line against your will to survive. Here’s a breakdown of some of the best on-site hotels to book for the spooky season, ranked by how close they’ll get you to the magic… and my personal opinion.

The Top Pick: Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Of course any of the Magic Kingdom resorts are a good idea based on their quicker access of hopping on the attached monorail line or boarding a water taxi to the park. But if proximity is king, the Contemporary wears the crown. Coming in at just 0.5 miles from the Magic Kingdom gates, it’s the closest resort on property with less than a 10-minute walk. And that walk is no small thing on a MNSSHP night.

The Contemporary is a truly iconic original Walt Disney World resort, built with a distinctive A-frame tower that lets the monorail run directly through the center of the building. So you have options: walk, or ride the skies. Most importantly, at the end of the night, walking back to the Contemporary is the fastest exit from Magic Kingdom; which is a huge win when the monorail ramps and bus stations are packed with tired, costumed crowds at a humid midnight.

The Contemporary also boasts some of the largest standard rooms on property, making it a great pick for families and bigger groups. And if fireworks are on the agenda, park view rooms and California Grill at the top of the hotel offer fantastic views of the Magic Kingdom skyline.

Budget Tip: Don’t pass up the Garden Wing of the Contemporary which is typically significantly less than staying in the main building. It’s a little further of a walk from your room to Magic Kingdom, but still close enough!

The Underrated Gem: Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Wilderness Lodge doesn’t get talked about enough in the MNSSHP conversation, and that’s a shame. It’s the next closest resort after the monorail trio, and the quieter, woodsy atmosphere is a genuinely lovely contrast to a loud, late-night Halloween party.

You can reach Magic Kingdom via bus or boat across Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. The boat in particular is a peaceful ride, and multiple boats run back and forth, keeping wait times pretty reasonable.

One caveat: if there’s lightning, the boat may not run, and you’ll be on a bus like everyone else. Worth keeping in mind for a Florida fall trip.

Rates at Wilderness Lodge start lower than the Contemporary, making it the most budget-friendly of the closer deluxe options like the Grand Floridian or Polynesian. The Lodge is a nice middle ground if you still want a gorgeous resort without the fuller price tag.

Bougie on a Budget? Try a Value Resort + Minnie Van

Staying at one of Disney’s value resorts, like All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, Pop Century or Art of Animation, puts you at the far end of the transportation chain for Magic Kingdom. Normally that means a bus, and a crowded one at the end of MNSSHP… but there’s a way to bypass that often overcrowded step entirely.

At Walt Disney World resorts, you can be picked up or dropped off right at their resort building (not just at a central lobby stop) and Minnie Vans are the only vehicles besides buses that can drop off and pick up directly in front of Magic Kingdom. Every other rideshare – regular Lyft and Uber – drops you at the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you still have to take the monorail or ferry to the park entrance. The Minnie Van gets special access!

Start with booking a value (or moderate!) resort and save significantly on the room rate, then use the Lyft app to request a Minnie Van pickup right from your resort building – with pricing varying based on distance and time of day. Rides typically run in the $20-28 range depending on destination, though with the flat base rate and per-mile charge, expect a minimum of around $35 per ride on Disney property. Round trip for a family of up to six, you’re looking at roughly $60–$80. But, this is still a fraction of what you’d save on one or two nights at a deluxe resort.

Plus, each Minnie Van comes with two car seats, installed by the Cast Member driver, and themed music or Mickey Mouse shorts playing en route to your destination. It’s the most efficient, fun, especially for kids, and the Cast Member drivers, in my personal experience, are all fantastic.

Wherever you stay, a few things are worth keeping in mind for the season:

  • MNSSHP kicks off on August 7th this year and runs 2-3 nights a week through Halloween, and tickets frequently sell out as the event approaches. It’s smart to plan ahead and book your fall trip sooner rather than later!
  • The party features three major entertainment offerings: Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade (led by the Headless Horseman), the Not-So-Spooky Fireworks Spectacular (hosted by Jack Skellington), and the baddie character-filled Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular stage show.
  • Party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom up to 3 hours before the event officially begins – a great way to get a head start on the park!
  • If you’re leaving late, timing your exit around the second parade schedule can save you significant time in transportation lines.
