As part of many updates and changes coming to SeaWorld Orlando, the new TurtleTrek film, opened this week, is aiming to be a one-of-a-kind attraction. According to the
Orlando Sentinel, the attraction "includes a 3-D, computer-generated film projected on the inside of a dome, giving visitors a 360-degree view of a virtual undersea environment." The attraction, located near Journey to Atlantis, incorporates 34 projectors all working in tandem to produce the 360-degree viewing experience. To this point, SeaWorld has not been known for their use of advanced technology, but with
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal's
Islands of Adventure and the expensive NextGen project at
Walt Disney World, SeaWorld seems to be "keeping up with the Joneses." This trend will continue with SeaWorld's follow-up to TurtleTrek titled Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. An
official press release describes the new attraction as "a first-of-its-kind family adventure ride that utilizes new technology for an experience that can change from visit to visit." Regarding this new area scheduled to open in 2013, park executives "consider the guests' encounters with the penguins to be the first of their kind in any theme park or zoo in the world."
