Recently, I had a chance to spend the weekend at the Portofino Inn & Suites, just south of the Disneyland Resort. The 190-room recently renovated hotel is sandwiched among the hotels on the southwest corner of Harbor & Katella that serve the dual purpose, hosting both convention AND theme park guests.
The Disneyland Resort is surrounded by locally owned and chain non-Disney eateries, lodging and more, so sometimes there are some great options (and values) to be had just outside of the gates. When it comes to hotels, Disney has partnered with nearly 60 area hotels that can be included with your tickets as part of a Disneyland Resort Good Neighbor Hotel Vacation Package.
I was in a standard room on the first floor, just off the lobby. In addition to regular sized rooms, this hotel offers 2-room kids suites.
The beds feature crisp white linens and were extremely comfortable to collapse into at the end of a day in Disneyland.
The room also includes a large dress/desk combo and a small table with two chairs, plus an easy chair next to the beds.
The Portofino offers something you don’t see all too often in hotels near the Disneyland Resort: balconies and patios. As I was on the first floor, there was a sliding door out to a small patio.
The split bathroom has a sink in the main area, with plenty of counter space. There’s a large mirror above the sink and mirrored closet doors just behind, making getting ready easy.
To make it convenient for multiple family members to get ready at the same time, the tub and toilet are in a separate room. The large tub includes dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
The Portofino has a nice-sized pool and hot tub area with plenty of shaded seating behind the main building. Just inside the building is a small gym facility with machines and weights.
A small laundry facility is available for guests near the lobby, along with the first floor’s ice machine.
While no food is available onsite, there is a gift shop in the second tower featuring snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. Be sure to grab some 99-cent bottled water on the way to the parks.
Parking at the Portofino is a bit limited, with some surface spaces and below-ground parking available. The hotel, however, has partnered with the nearby Residence Inn to make spaces available in their garage.
The walk to the parks is around 15 minutes, of course those 15 minutes seem a bit longer at the end of a long day in the parks. The other option is the Anaheim Resort Transit which picks up nearby for a nominal fee.
The Portofino Inn & Suites is a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you will be splitting your time between the Anaheim Convention Center and the Disneyland Resort. Have you stayed at the Portofino Inn & Suites and would you recommend it? What Good Neighbor Hotel should I take a look at next?
