At the “Disney Villains: Icons of Evil” panel at Destination D23 in Walt Disney World, Disney Imagineers shared exciting new details about the upcoming Villains expansion at Magic Kingdom. First revealed at last year’s D23, the project has been moving forward. We learned last year that it will feature two major attractions, along with themed dining and shopping options.
Inspired by European Architecture

Imagineers explained how much research has gone into the project before construction even began. The design takes heavy inspiration from Art Nouveau, a European architectural style known for flowing lines, bold shapes, and rich colors. This style will help bring the world of Disney villains to life in a way that feels magical and immersive.

Guidance From a Disney Legend
Disney Legend Andreas Deja, the animator behind Gaston, Jafar, and Scar, appeared in a video message to announce he is consulting on the land. He explained that these characters give Imagineers the perfect source material, with their strong personalities, striking visuals, and layered stories shaping both the atmosphere and the overall guest experience.
Research in Paris and Barcelona

To ensure the new land reflects the villains’ animated look and feel, Imagineers worked closely with Walt Disney Animation Studios artists. They also traveled to Paris and Barcelona to study architecture firsthand. In Paris, they noted how Art Nouveau designs often made nature appear as if it were frozen by magic. In Barcelona, the Modernisme style added an eerie and otherworldly edge. Both cities also showcased vibrant stained glass and painted metal details, inspiring Imagineers to use jewel-toned colors throughout the land.

“Conjured Architecture”
The Imagineering team coined the phrase “Conjured Architecture” to describe this mix of real-world history and fantastical design. It’s the guiding concept behind the new land, blending the drama of Disney villains with the beauty of European artistry.
What’s Next
Fans now have a better idea of the creative vision shaping this expansion. With new attractions, themed spaces, and a look that feels both magical and menacing, the villains’ land promises to be one of the most talked-about additions to Magic Kingdom when it opens.
