Japanese Government Lifts State of Emergency; No Opening Date Announced for Tokyo Disneyland

As businesses are beginning to reopen in Japan, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has completely lifted Coronavirus State of Emergency in Tokyo and four other remaining areas on Monday.

The stay at home measures were lifted in most of Japan back on May 14th.

The State of Emergency was still in effect until today in Chiba (where the Tokyo Disney Resort is located), Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Hokkaido.

Abe stated that the lifting of the State of Emergency does not mean that the country has reached the end of the outbreak and that the “goal is to balance preventive measures and the economy until vaccines and effective drugs become available.”

Japan had approximately 16,600 confirmed Coronavirus cases and about 850 deaths. So far, the country has avoided a massive outbreak like the ones the U.S. and Europe have experienced despite softer restrictions.
