The toys are back – and this time, they’re up against something they’ve never faced before.
Disney and Pixar have officially released the first full-length trailer for Toy Story 5, giving fans a clearer look at the film’s story, tone, and emotional stakes ahead of its theatrical release on June 19.
Tagged with the line “Times may change, but friends are forever,” the trailer confirms that Toy Story 5 explores how Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang fit into a world where childhood playtime is increasingly dominated by technology.

A New Chapter in Bonnie’s World
The trailer opens inside Bonnie’s room, where the toys are still doing everything they can to make her happy. A humorous opening scene features Bonnie officiating a wedding between Forky and a new utensil character, Karen Beverly, setting the familiar playful tone fans expect from the franchise.
But the mood quickly shifts when it becomes clear that Bonnie’s attention is drifting away from her toys and toward a digital device. A new toy named Lilypad is introduced, and she immediately calls out the growing threat technology poses to traditional play. Her ability to mimic voices and adapt to situations makes her stand out, while also raising questions about where toys fit in a screen-focused world.

Woody Answers the Call
As abandoned toys begin turning up more frequently, Jessie reaches out to Woody, who reflects on how much has changed since he last lived with Bonnie. The trailer confirms Woody will rejoin the group on a mission to remind Bonnie why toys still matter.
While Buzz stays behind for much of the early action, the heart of the story remains firmly centered on friendship, purpose, and what it means to grow up – themes that have defined the Toy Story franchise since the beginning.
Familiar Faces, Modern Themes
The trailer reunites fans with many favorites from the Toy Story family, including Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Forky, Mr. Potato Head, and Slinky Dog. Humor, heartfelt moments, and gentle nostalgia are woven throughout, while the central conflict reflects a very modern reality for families today.
Pixar appears to be tackling the idea that while childhood changes, emotional connections do not – and that even in a tech-driven world, toys still have something special to offer.
Toy Story 5 opens exclusively in theaters on June 19.
