A great question was raised on the DIS Facebook group yesterday by a member named Holly that had been previously asked by Kathy Werling on her Facebook page: “You can get a meal delivered to you from any Disney World restaurant. Where is it from and what are you ordering?” That question inspired Jackie to write an article on the subject, and it (and all of the daydreaming that has ensued since the moment it was asked) also inspired the topic of this afternoon’s live Disney Dining Show.
It’s funny, but just last week, I found myself craving a dish or two from my favorite Walt Disney World restaurants. My hubby, in jest, asked me just the other night to check to see if one of our favorite Disney restaurants had availability that night. Sigh…first world problems, I know.
But, what if? What if the Disney World restaurants/counter service locations/festival kiosks were delivering their favorites? What meal or snack or guilty pleasure would you choose if you could be in the parks or resorts right now? I have my list. And I’ll bet you have yours. I’ll stick to my current top three. Let’s compare notes.
The Wave (Disney’s Contemporary Resort): Bacon and Eggs
This is a family favorite, thanks to Pete and his devotion to the dish. It’s pork belly and a perfectly poached egg atop a bed of Tilllamook smoked cheddar grits. Let me say that again: TILLAMOOK SMOKED CHEDDAR GRITS. If you’re at all wondering if you would enjoy this dish, the answer is yes. You would love it, and you’d want to lick the bowl. I promise.
The Bacon and Eggs appetizer can only be found on The Wave’s dinner menu, but, if you need just a taste of this magical dish, and you’re enjoying The Wave’s amazing breakfast buffet, you can find the grits among the offerings. It’s not the same, but it’ll help satiate the craving just a bit.
Hollywood Brown Derby (Disney’s Hollywood Studios): Our Famous Cobb Salad
This is the dish that I’ve found myself missing the most. There is a recipe online, but mannnn it takes a lot of ingredients. I might try it when the level of desperation reaches a new pinnacle. The entrée size of this salad is on the lunch menu, but can be requested during dinner hours. It’s also customizable. Holy cow, this salad is good. Add the rolls and butter topped with French sea salt to the mix, and that’s all I need for dinner. Simply divine.
Hollywood Scoops (Disney’s Hollywood Studios): Ice Cream Sundae
Sounds simple enough, right? You’re probably thinking “For crying out loud, Deni, it’s an ice cream sundae. You can make it at home.” Yes, you’re right. I could make an ice cream sundae at home, and it would be quite yummy, I’m sure. But I wouldn’t be standing at the foot of the Hollywood Tower Hotel while eating it, and I wouldn’t be hearing the bell of the traffic directional sign ring while doing so. So, it’s not quite the same. Eating one of these is one of the very first things I’d like to do when the parks reopen. This wouldn’t be for delivery; I’d want to be in the park to enjoy it.
A note: just because the menu says that the sundae is made with vanilla ice cream doesn’t mean that you have to stick with vanilla. The cast members at Hollywood Scoops are wonderful, and they’ll swap out vanilla for the flavor of your choice. I refer to this place as my favorite ice cream parlor. And it is.
My list is longer than this, believe me. For the sake of brevity, I had to stick with my top three. So what dishes, sweets or treats would either be in your top three to have delivered or in your top three to enjoy next at Walt Disney World? Please let me know in the comments section below. I’ll be continuing to make my list. And checking it twice. 🙂
