Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White is located in the main building of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge on the second floor and features a visit from Snow White, Dopey, Grumpy, and even the Evil Queen. The resort’s theming of a National Park Lodge carries over to the restaurant with its artwork and craftsman touches. To bring in the enchanted forest from Snow White indoors, the restaurant is under a canopy of trees with warm lighting.
Dinner is a pre-fixe, three-course menu and costs $65 per adult and $39 per child, or two table-service credits on the Disney Dining Plan. The menu is, of course, themed after Snow White, and your appetizers and desserts are served on a miniature enchanted forest.
As the menu reads, “And so the story begins…” you start your dinner journey with a trio of shared appetizers.
First up is the Wicked Shrimp Cocktail served with bloody Mary vinaigrette, seaweed salad, and house-made seasoning. There were three of us dining and we were a little disappointed to see we each only got one shrimp. While the shrimp were large and plenty flavorful, the vinaigrette provided too much tang and we would have preferred a more classic cocktail sauce.
Next is the Hunter’s Pie made with turkey and chicken served with cranberry preserves and crispy sauerkraut. This was our favorite of the appetizers and so we were yet again sad we only got one each. You also have to laugh that the Hunter’s Pie is indeed just a meatball, but hey, who doesn’t love Disney theming?
Last on our appetizer journey was the mushroom bisque topped with chive oil. I generally love mushroom bisque, but this one fell a little flat in flavor. The very cute cauldrons were much appreciated, though, as they kept the soup plenty warm while we worked our way through the first course.
We also decided to try a few of the “Wickedly Refreshing Cocktails” and were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few options unique to this location. Ryno selected A Brew of Peaches for $17, which was made with Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey, peach, raspberry, and a brulee demerara sugar. He felt this was a little sweet but still enjoyable.
I chose the Alchemy (no not the Taylor Swift song) made with Fords Gin, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, and watermelon for $15. While the ingredients of this drink are all things I enjoy, it mostly tasted like sweet lemonade with gin. I wish the elderflower flavor would have come through more.
Craig enjoyed The Smoking Mirror made with Johnnie Walker Black 12 year Whiskey, wild berry, lime, and rosemary smoke for $15. The presentation of this drink with the smoke was very impressive, but we all agreed you can find better versions of all three of these drinks next door at the Territory Lounge. Watch our full review of the lounge here!
Time for our next course – “The Core of the Story Entrees”! Ryno chose the Magic Mirror’s Slow-braised Pork Shank served with polenta and gastrique. While the polenta was somewhat bland, the pork shank was tender and flavorful. Still nowhere near as good as the pork shank at Be Our Guest but still a solid entrée.
I had the “Cottage” Beef Stroganoff made with tender beef, preserved vegetables, spätzle, mushrooms, and cheese. This was a creative take on stroganoff and while it was very filling, it was a very salty dish that had confusing flavors. I do appreciate the crunch from the vegetables but not a standout entrée.
Craig had the surprise winner at table – the Royal Prime Rib Roast served with horseradish-mashed potato, carrots, and jus. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and the horseradish-mashed potato made it the perfect combo.
For our “Sweet Endings Shared Desserts,” we were each given three small and very themed treats.
Pictured above is the Miner’s Treasurers, which is cookies ‘n cream panna cotta garnished with chocolate gems. This was both creamy and rich and Craig’s favorite of the three- he felt the panna cotta was perfectly creamy and the cookies ‘n cream made it that much better.
Next is the Fairy Tale Gooseberry Tart topped with meringue and gooseberry. This was similar to a tart version of an apple pie and was unique but just okay.
Also very themed to my favorite villain, the Evil Queen, the “Poison” Apple is dark-chocolate-apple mouse with a sour center. This was maybe the most unique but since none of us are chocolate with fruit fans, this one fell a little short for us.
Snow White, Dopey, and Grumpy visited our table twice during our meal and paraded through the restaurant to “A Silly Song.”
It should come as no surprise that we were invited to see the Evil Queen, she did not grace us with our presence at the table. She was of course the highlight and such a fun interaction. She too made a grand entrance through the restaurant when she was ready to meet us.
We had a lot of fun meeting the characters and enjoying dinner together but now it’s time to give our thoughts! Ryno gave the ambiance a 5, food presentation/ preparation a 6, quality of taste a 6, service a 7, cost a 4, and character interaction a 7 for a total of 2.9 out of 5. Hannah gave the ambiance a 7, food presentation/ preparation a 7, quality of taste a 5, service a 7, cost a 6, and character interaction a 7 for a total of 3.2 out of 5. Craig gave the ambiance a 6, food presentation/ preparation a 6, quality of taste a 7, service an 8, and cost a 5, and character interaction an 8 for a total of 3.3 out of 5.
Overall, we agreed that the food was was lackluster and the character interactions at times felt a bit awkward. If the price point was not so high, we would have likely scored the restaurant higher. This dining experience would still be a must for any Snow White fan and it gives a rare opportunity to meet the Evil Queen!
