On Saturdays here at The DIS, we like to do a few things like whipping up some of our favorite Disney Parks recipes and hosting a weekly Disney Debate to make space for some of those deep, dark opinions we all tend to keep to ourselves. Today, let’s talk about something every Disney Parks guest has silently battled at some point: the elusive art of finding a seat. Whether it’s during peak lunch hours, while waiting for a parade, or just needing a moment to regroup with your kids and your sanity, finding a place to sit at the U.S. Disney Parks can be the most challenging part of the day. Some fans argue there’s plenty if you know where to look, while others are left circling like vultures for a bench that never opens up. So, do the parks really have enough seating?
On one hand, it’s understandable why Disney keeps seating somewhat limited. Too many benches can clog up walkways, and park designers clearly prioritize guest flow and visual storytelling over comfort. No one wants to see a sea of picnic tables blocking their castle view, and wasting space on largely vacant areas of the park when peak crowds subside after meal times is not ideal. Plus, let’s be honest, there are a few quiet corners and shaded nooks if you know where to escape, especially in EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Even so, that doesn’t help much when you’re in Tomorrowland at 3 p.m. holding three churros, a tired toddler, and no hope in sight.
On a recent trip to Japan, my idea of what adequate seating should look like was entirely redefined, with barely a single bench or public waste bin visible during our 10-day adventure. So, while everywhere in the USA feels like it has enough seating compared to my most recent international journey, I’m constantly on the lookout for a table for that quick-service lunch stop. It’s hard to ignore that the average Disney day involves a lot of walking, standing, and waiting; for older guests, families with small children, or anyone needing a quick break, more thoughtfully placed seating could go a long way. The desperate move of using planters or fences as makeshift perches doesn’t exactly scream guest comfort, and often isn’t feasible for little ones to balance on.
A few more shaded rest areas (preferably near snacks!) wouldn’t hurt. After all, sometimes the most magical moment of your day isn’t on a ride, but rather sitting down with a cold drink and watching the world go by. Let us know what you think. Could Disney use more seating throughout the parks?
Speaking of seating, here’s our Disney Park Bench series, where we film five minutes of ambiance from park benches around the Disney theme parks!
