Disney Rumor Round Up October 2017

Welcome to another edition of Disney Rumor Round Up! You can check out the September installment here. Disclaimer: any rumors mentioned in this article may not ever happen.

Magic Kingdom

Nothing new on the Magic Kingdom front. Construction is set to begin soon on the new theater that will be located just off Main Street in the bypass area. No opening date has been announced, but we can expect it to open before the 50th anniversary in the 2019-2020 range. The theater is said to be high tech, so this could be a huge addition to the Magic Kingdom.

A new attraction within the United Kingdom pavilion is still heavily rumored and is now said to be themed around Brave. The type of attraction is still not known, but will be a smaller B or C ticket attraction.

As for the rest of Epcot, construction on Ratatouille has begun, as well as construction on the new retention ponds behind where the Guardians of Galaxy coaster will go. The existing Universe of Energy building will be mainly queue space. The new building will be for the coaster itself and is said to be roughly 10 stories tall according to sources on WDWMagic.

Hollywood Studios

Woody's Lunch Box

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge construction is well underway, but is said to be about 4 months behind Disneyland’s version. Disneyland’s has been announced to open in time for the next D23 Expo in 2019. The Hollywood Studios version is supposedly going to open in fiscal 2020 which would be after October 1st, 2019.

Toy Story Land is coming along as expected and is still rumored to open Memorial day weekend 2018 like Pandora did in 2017. Slinky Dog Dash has been undergoing ride testing already and we finally know the name of the quick service location: Woody’s Lunch Box. This location will not have any indoor seating, but there will be outdoor seating.

Animal Kingdom

It’s been very quiet for any rumors for Animal Kingdom. Pandora is still experiencing long wait times and Flight of Passage is a very hard to get Fastpass, even at 60 days out.

Walt Disney World Resort

Disney finally gave us our first look at the NBA Experience. The new venue will open in 2019 and feature dining, shopping, and interactive elements. DisneyQuest is currently being demolished to make way for this new experience.

A new 350 room boutique type resort is set to be built near the Fantasia Gardens mini-golf course. This new hotel would take over the tennis courts there and would not be run by Disney, but is expected to be part of the Swan and Dolphin complex. The Swan and Dolphin won’t confirm the new resort but does say they are looking at expansion options. Coastal Construction has come out and said they are the ones building the resort.

runDisney made the announcement this month that races will not be back at the resort in 2018. They stated in their announcement that the reason is construction at the resort. Anyone familiar with runDisney and anyone who has been following this closely knows construction is likely not the only reason. According to the OC Register runDisney races in Anaheim bring in $20-30 million. Disney and the City of Anaheim have been having some issues regarding parking expansion at the resort. The Eastern Gateway project has been cancelled due to the city not approving the project. The new structure was set to open in time for Star Wars crowds. The rumors and speculation have stated Disney cancelled the races due to the tense relationship with Anaheim and the fact Disney pays them for road closures and security.

Disneyland has officially announced a new four diamond luxury resort that will take over part of the Downtown Disney area. This new resort will open in 2021. In addition to this, Disneyland announced a new parking structure for the Disneyland hotels and a new 6,500 space structure to be built next to Mickey and Friends. The new structure next to Mickey and Friends will open in 2019 in time for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge crowds. Disney needed to get these improvements announced in time for the increased crowds coming in 2019 as parking has been an issue for sometime even without the new 14-acre land.

According to MiceChat, Disney California Adventure’s Halloween additions have been a huge success. So much so that next year Grizzly Peak will get Halloween decor and Radiator Springs Racers will get a Halloween overlay next year.

Splitsville in Downtown Disney was set to open this year but is behind schedule and won’t open until the Spring. The rock work in Tomorrowland is said to get trimmed back to allow more space as Disneyland gets ready for Star Wars crowds.

So many new things have been announced for Disney all over the world. We can expect even more rumors and announcements to come in the next few months. Join in the discussion of these news and rumors stories on the DISboards.
