Finding Nemo - The Musical

The "Theater in the Wild" has been transformed into the undersea world of Marlin and Nemo. Through the use of puppetry, acrobats, dancers performing against an animated backdrop, "Finding Nemo" comes to life.

Some of the most respected names in theater have collaborated on this stage show. The 14  original songs are composed by Robert Lopez, Tony Award winner for "Avenue Q" and Kristen Anderson-Lopez noted for the a cappella musical "Along the Way." The opening number 'Big Blue World' is also featured at Epcot's 'The Seas with Nemo and Friends'.  Crush and his Aussie buddies perform 'Go With the Flow.' This upbeat number pays homage to the surfin' songs of the '60's.

The puppets for "Finding Nemo - The Musical" are designed by Michael Curry, creator of the amazing puppets for Disney's Broadway smash hit, "The Lion King." The oversized sea creatures include Crush who's the size of VW Bug and the incredible 22 foot tall Nigel the Pelican.

The "Theater in the Wild" has been enclosed for this performance and is now climate controlled.

Finding Nemo - The Musical Review by Bob Varley

Hi Folks, I thought I would let you know about this new attraction in Animal Kingdom.   First off I LOVED IT.

Disney has stepped up in my opinion to deliver a first rate product to Animal Kingdom. I found the theater to have great views from everywhere you sat. The theater also handled a large number of guests.

The puppets are similar to the Lion King show on Broadway. Finding Nemo- The Musical also reminded me of the Aladdin show in Disneyland's California Adventure Theme Park where the characters come out into the audience.

I thought that Nemo was a good combination of video, puppets and special effects. One of the puppets had to be an incredible twenty feet tall.

I went to the 11/8/06 preview and right now this show is in test mode. They are planning for twice daily preview shows at 12:30 pm and 3:00pm until 11/19 when it goes into "soft opening."   (The soft open date was confirmed by two cast members.)   The press event and grand opening is scheduled for January.

Please note during this test phase that they are very sensitive to having video or pictures taken. We were limited in what pictures we were allowed to take but will add more when its less restrictive.

Finding Nemo - The Musical Review by Regina Hinrichs

First, I agree with Bob, this show is first rate and is not to be missed.

The stage is flanked on both sides by a facade with plastic bubbles. Before the show began, I was just looking around when I heard the kid's shout "NEMO!!" Sure enough, every so often you get a glimpse of Nemo swimming in one of the bubbles. Makes the wait a lot more tolerable if you have little ones with you.

The characters are in puppet form, and the actors who handle them supply the voice. While you might think that it's distracting, it really is not. The fish are brightly colored while the "people" costumes are somewhat camoflauged in comparison. Still, you find yourself looking at both, especially when there's singing and dancing.

It's amazing how they cover the whole movie in about 30 minutes. Its all there: Mr. Ray, the boat, the sharks, the fish tank, the jellyfish, sea turtles, PHEW!! More important, the heart and humor of this wonderful movie remain intact. Dory is just as absent minded and funny as she is in the film while the love that Marlin and Nemo have for one another tugs at your heart.

The songs are a real delight. I spoke to others who saw the show and we agreed that one number was a problem. We couldn't understand what Crush was singing. (The puppetry was fantastic, you just can't make out the words. I don't know if the music was overpowering or if it's just too heavy on the "dude" accent. (Went back a second time, still couldn't make out a lot of the lyrics.)

Other than that, the musical numbers were a real standout. Being a musical theater fanatic, I give this a big thumbs up. The songs are an integral part in telling the story, which is how it should be.

I loved what happens when you leave the theater. No spoiler from me, but you'll be smiling as you exit.
