Villains Land

Disney Villains are getting a land of their own at Walt Disney World. Villains Land is coming to Magic Kingdom, bringing some of Disney Animation’s most infamous characters together in an entirely new setting created specifically for the theme park.

The massive new land will feature two major attractions, dining, shopping, and immersive environments, with Disney comparing its overall scale to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Rather than recreating a location from one particular Disney film, Walt Disney Imagineering is developing an original story that allows villains from different Disney Animation films to exist together within the same world.

Disney revealed considerably more about Villains Land during D23 2026, including the stories behind its two headlining attractions: a Maleficent roller coaster and a Magic Mirror dark ride.

What Is the Story Behind Villains Land?

Villains Land begins with a familiar fairytale idea: wandering away from the safe path and entering a dark and mysterious forest.

Deep within this forest is a Wishing Well, but this isn't the sort where wishes come true and everyone lives happily ever after. According to the land's backstory, someone once made an evil wish so powerful that it corrupted the Wishing Well, breaking apart its stone structure and spreading poisoned magic throughout the surrounding forest.

That dark magic eventually attracted Disney Villains, who began arriving in hopes of claiming the remaining power of the Wishing Well for themselves.

Using its magic, the villains have created their own lairs throughout the land. Disney describes these as enormous fortresses and palaces that reflect the personalities of the villains who inhabit them. These locations will house some of the attractions, dining, shopping, and other experiences guests encounter while exploring Villains Land.

While the characters themselves come from familiar Disney Animation stories, the larger Villains Land storyline is completely original.

Maleficent Roller Coaster

One of Villains Land's two major attractions will be a roller coaster centered around Maleficent.

Guests will venture toward the Mistress of All Evil's fortress, which sits high on a mountaintop surrounded by enchanted briars. The coaster will send riders racing through those briars as they make their way toward Maleficent herself.

Walt Disney Imagineering has also teased some big ambitions for this attraction. Disney says the coaster will incorporate elements Imagineers have never attempted before on similar attractions, although the company hasn't revealed exactly what that means just yet.

The attraction's name, ride system, height requirement, and other details have not yet been announced.

Magic Mirror Dark Ride

The second headlining attraction will take a very different approach and bring multiple Disney Villains together in one experience.

The Magic Mirror from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will serve as the host of this dark ride. Guests will find him within the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen's palace before being transported into a mysterious place called the Mirror Realm.

Once inside, guests will encounter numerous Disney Villains conjured by the Magic Mirror. Imagineering plans to combine physical sets with special effects to create the supernatural world on the other side of the glass.

Disney hasn't revealed the complete roster of villains we'll encounter, which leaves one particularly fun question hanging out there for now: Who exactly is waiting for us inside the Mirror Realm?

What Will Villains Land Look Like?

Imagineers aren't simply combining architectural styles from existing Disney Villains films. They've developed a design philosophy specifically for the land called “Conjured Architecture.”

The concept grew out of Imagineering research trips to Paris and Barcelona, where the team studied Art Nouveau and Modernisme architecture. Imagineers were particularly interested in rich colors, exaggerated proportions, and swirling patterns inspired by the natural world.

Those influences are being combined with Disney Animation's classic villain imagery to create buildings that look as though they could have been formed by magic rather than constructed by ordinary means.

That approach also helps explain some of the twisting, almost unnatural shapes we've seen in Disney's artist renderings for Villains Land. Instead of trying to make architecture from several unrelated animated films fit together, Imagineering is creating one visual language for the entire land.

At D23 2026, Disney also displayed two themed tree sculptures offering another glimpse at the unusual environment Imagineers are developing.

Dining and Shopping in Villains Land

Villains Land will include restaurants and shops, although Disney has not yet announced their names or specific concepts.

Based on the land's story, these spaces will exist within the palaces, fortresses, and other environments conjured by the villains who have taken up residence around the corrupted Wishing Well.

Disney has described them as places filled with “treats, trinkets, and more temptations,” so we can expect the villain theme to extend well beyond the attractions themselves.

How Big Will Villains Land Be?

Villains Land is shaping up to be a substantial addition to Magic Kingdom.

During D23 2026, Imagineers compared its size and scale to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. While that doesn't necessarily mean the two lands will occupy the exact same acreage, it gives us a much better sense of the scope Disney has in mind.

With two major attractions plus dining, shopping, elaborate environments, and plenty of room to explore, this is being developed as a full-scale themed land rather than a small expansion centered around one attraction.

Where Will Villains Land Be Located?

Villains Land will be part of the major expansion taking place beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom.

The project is part of a much larger transformation of this section of the park that also includes Piston Peak National Park, the new Cars-inspired area replacing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America.

Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Villains Land.

Villains Land Development and Announcements

Disney first announced plans for the Villains-themed land at D23 2024, confirming that the Magic Kingdom expansion would include two major attractions along with dining and shopping.

More details followed at Destination D23 in 2025, when Imagineers discussed the research and design work behind the project and introduced the idea of Conjured Architecture.

D23 2026 brought the biggest update yet. Disney officially confirmed the Villains Land name and revealed the corrupted Wishing Well storyline, Maleficent roller coaster, Magic Mirror dark ride, and additional details about the scale and overall design of the land.

Imagineering Executive Creative Director Caroline May described what the team is trying to accomplish:

“Villains Land is such an exciting addition to the Magic Kingdom, because it allows us to expand the park’s storytelling in a way that feels both fresh and true to its legacy and fairytale roots,” May said. “We have an incredibly talented and passionate team working behind the scenes every day to make sure this land captures the power, magic, and mischievous (and sometimes humorous) spirit of the Disney Villains, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see that fans are just as excited as we are for what’s ahead.”

As construction and development continue, we'll update this page with attraction names, opening timelines, dining and shopping details, new concept art, construction progress, and anything else Disney reveals about Villains Land.
