Disney has announced that the upcoming revamp of Test Track will draw inspiration from World of Motion, the original EPCOT attraction that explored the history of transportation. This beloved ride, a fixture at EPCOT until the late 1990s, will serve as inspiration for the new Test Track, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology. The refreshed experience will honor the “past, present, and future of automation” while introducing a fresh, dynamic storyline developed in collaboration with General Motors, the ride’s long-time sponsor.
Scheduled to open in late 2025, with a later clarification pointing to a late summer release, the reimagined Test Track will celebrate humanity’s enduring drive and “push innovation forward … on the thrilling road to a brighter tomorrow.” The ride’s new scenes will focus on onboard technology, customization, and the evolution of mobility. It will showcase how transportation has transformed over time and continues to shape the way we live and connect. While the ride’s track layout, including its signature high-speed outdoor loop, will remain unchanged, guests can expect a visually enhanced experience that emphasizes the spirit of progress and discovery.
For EPCOT fans who hold a special place for the park’s original attractions, this news is particularly exciting. But in reality, this transformation is thrilling for any Disney park-goer. Why? Because the newest version of Test Track has the potential to alleviate crowd congestion across the entire park. Test Track 2.0, while still a popular attraction in its own right, often led to long lines and occupied a significant portion of the park’s guests. With the reimagined Test Track drawing even larger crowds, the effects will likely ripple throughout EPCOT, helping to reduce wait times for other major attractions. Notably, high-demand rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure could experience shorter lines, making the park more enjoyable for visitors.
Personally, I find Mission: SPACE to be nauseating, as do many other guests. And while Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is undeniably amazing, it’s the main reason many visitors spend time in World Discovery. With Test Track 3.0 joining the mix, however, it will provide another major attraction to draw guests into this often-overlooked section of the park, alleviating some of the crowding in other areas. This added interest will help distribute foot traffic more evenly across EPCOT, encouraging guests to explore all parts of the park.
If done right, EPCOT could easily boast three of the top 7–9 most popular rides in all of Walt Disney World, based on a combination of wait times, guest ratings, and overall appeal. Not only would this elevate EPCOT’s status among Disney fans, but it would also improve the overall guest experience by spreading out crowds more effectively. In short, the reimagined Test Track could be a major game-changer, boosting EPCOT’s popularity and solidifying its role as a standout destination within the broader Walt Disney World resort.
