The Dole Whips, The Carmel Apples, The Tonga Toast, School Bread – Disney World is full of famous, unique or just overall beloved classic treats in all their parks. But for those that are looking for something new, it’s time to raise a glass (of Le Fou’s Brew perhaps) to the underrated sugary snacks of Walt Disney World Parks, and maybe it’ll give you a chance to discover something you never even knew existed. Though this is of course based on personal opinions, I’m sure there will be fans of these selections, while others will have chosen something else instead. But regardless of your choices or ones you never knew even existed, let’s take a look at some treats that deserve some love – food love that is!
Special Mention: Cake Cups from Cheshire Cafe (R.I.P)

I’d like to take a quick second to give a moment of internet yummy silence, for a treat that is sadly not sold anymore at Disney World. Was it the healthiest thing in the world? Absolutely not. But was it incredibly delicious? You bet your Mickey Mouse ears it was! This cake parfait that came in various flavors was met with a ton of love from the Disney community, especially over at The Disney Food Blog. But for some reason – probably because Disney realized it was the most diabetic thing they’ve ever created – the cake cups have disappeared from existence. But maybe one day – preferably when I am there to experience it – this simple, yet ridiculously delicious sweet insanity will return… into my hands….for me to eat all of it!
Mickey Shaped Rice Crispy Treats (Covered in chocolate w/ M&M candies on top) from Main Street Bakery/Most Parks

If you find these babies at your resort gift shop, or if you even get a more extreme version at one of the park bakeries, it’s hard not to fall completely head over heels (or stomach, for that matter) over the various Mickey shaped Rice Crispy Treats. Similar with the Minnie’s Bake Shop Cookies, I have a few that are among my personal favorite variations on the dessert – number one on the list is always the milk chocolate covered ones with the M&M’s covering the ears, but as for the super special versions, I adore the Disneyland (which is pictured above) 60th version, covered in different bits of White Chocolate for the buttons and other aspects. Many people also like the Character Image ones, including recent additions like BB-8 from Star Wars and the Olaf from Frozen, which usually are in a circle shape and covered in white chocolate.
Troll Horn from Epcot’s Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe

Though this might look like a cinnamon roll designed by a person obsessed with whipped cream, this Norway inspired treat is light on the sugary flavor, but full on the delicious factor. Though everyone loves School Bread, the Troll Horn – with its light cloudberry cream filling – is just the right amount of indulgent without going overboard. There’s something about a dessert that isn’t too sweet on the flavor that hits the spot, and with a nice basic tea, this is a candidate for the perfect Illuminations showtime snack.
Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich from Epcot’s L’Artisan des Glaces

Macarons are in a lot of ways the new “trendy” French export, thanks to places like Laudree and other French luxury bakeshops popping up in the USA (aka I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw one in Disney Springs soon.) But with such a popular treat, Disney had to come up with an even more delicious way to use these (sort of) extreme cookies to their advantage. The result? These macaron ice cream sandwiches, made at Epcot’s L’Artisan des Glaces. Though not an original treat (since I saw similar desserts popping up in LA and NY awhile before their arrival in Epcot), these babies come in a variety flavors, even some specific seasonal ones, and are the perfect mixture of refreshing and sugary all at once. If you are looking for an update on the typical, and at times boring, ice cream sandwich, L’Artisan des Glaces has got you covered.
Every Single Thing Inside Karamell-Kuche in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion (Especially the cookies)
Whenever I am at Epcot, I make a point to plan out a treat to eat during Illuminations. And usually, without fail, it always involves something from Germany’s Karamell-Kuche shop. Sponsored by the incredible Werther’s caramel company, all these items taste like heaven in your mouth. If I were to recommend one – between the incredible caramel popcorn and chocolate assortments – I’m always a fan of the Dark Chocolate Caramel Cookie. Let me tell you that this thing is the most sinful and perfect cookie I might have ever tasted on Disney property, and paired with a traditional Disney hot chocolate (aka not from Starbucks), it’ll bring you total zen of incredible flavors and comfort.
These are just a few of my favorite Disney World treats! From ice cream to cookies – there are tons to choose from. What are yours? I want to know even more things to choose from. Also, if any of you had a magic wand, can you get the cake cups back please? I miss them way too much.
