Repainting is well underway at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom, as the park’s centerpiece begins its return to a cooler gray and cream color palette.
Work began in late January, and visible progress has accelerated over the past week. The new gray hue now covers most of the rear façade of the castle and has wrapped around both sides. Areas closest to the front of the structure are beginning to reflect the updated look as well, with sections visible from the central hub showing a clear difference between the former pink tones and the refreshed gray.

The back of the castle was the first to receive paint and now appears nearly complete.

From several vantage points throughout the park, you can see the transformation unfolding in real time. In spots where both color schemes remain, the contrast is especially noticeable.

To accommodate the project, the castle moat has been drained. High-reach cranes are positioned inside the moat during early morning hours and are typically cleared by midday to minimize disruption to guest photos in front of the park’s most photographed landmark.

Repainting has now begun on portions of the front-facing side using cranes stationed in the drained moat. While the main façade remained largely untouched during the initial phase, details including the balcony and clock area have transitioned from pink to gray, offering one of the first clear glimpses of how the finished castle will look.

Disney has not announced an official completion date. Based on the current pace of work, however, the repainting could be finished within the next several weeks.

Departing from the gold and peachy pink tones introduced for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, the refreshed scheme more closely resembles the castle’s original 1971 opening day colors with cool grays, soft creams, and gold accents. It also aligns more closely with the castle’s appearance in Walt Disney’s Cinderella (1950), where the castle appears white, complementing Cinderella’s silvery blue gown and golden hair.

Walt Disney World is currently selling through its pink-toned Cinderella Castle merchandise, with future releases expected to reflect the restored gray and cream color scheme:

While the pink palette had its fans, the return to a more neutral and regal color scheme restores a look that defined the park for decades. Do you prefer the pink and gold tones or the returning color scheme?
