Port Canaveral has announced plans to install electric vehicle charging stations in their parking lots as part of a deal with Nissan. A fast-charging station, that will charge a car in less than 30 minutes, will be added near the Exploration Tower. Nissan will pay for the equipment, a cost of $31,000, and the Port will pay $18, 376 for the engineering, design and installation.
Slow-charging stations will be added in the Disney Cruise Line long-term parking garage, after getting requests from Disney guests. The slow-charging stations will cost less than $10,000.
Carol Noble, director of environmental plans and programs at the port, said they want to accommodate people who might fear running out of power before getting to a charging station and that this would give them a “convenient place to recharge.”
A vote was taken to add electric vehicle charging stations at the other parking garages, but it didn’t pass.
